A little information about Cheham Ragdolls
and Allen & myself.
Our outside stud houses for the boys
Allen and I have been breeding and showing Ragdolls since 1993. We are totally addicted to, not only the wonderful look of the Ragdoll, but also to their unique personality and temperament. We are totally committed to the Ragdoll in every sense of the word and cannot imagine our lives without being involved in some way in the health and welfare of the breed. At this time we are actively involved in the quest to inform and educate all Ragdoll breeders, old and new, of the importance of DNA testing their cats for the known HCM gene found in Ragdolls. Hopefully by careful testing and responsable breeding programmes, we will help ensure the health of the Ragdoll for generations to come.
We both sat on the Committee of The British Ragdoll Cat Club for 12 years with Allen as Chairman and myself as Hon Secretary in recent years until we stood down in 2008. Allen took the Club's show from it's infancy as an Exemption Show in 1997 right through to Championship level in 2003 and I was proud to have assisted him from 2000. We both sat for 10 years as BAC delegates and are proud to have been a part of taking the breed from Merits through to Championship status along with working hard to get the Red & Tabby series recognised in the UK. Recently we have once again been proud to have been asked to become the Presidents of The United Kingdom Ragdoll Breeders Club ( UKRBS) and are thrilled to be able to help and support this new and exciting breed club. We wish the club all the best in it's aims to protect the Health and Welfare of the Ragdoll in future years and intend to play an active role in it's aims and objectives.
We moved to Hertford, Hertfordshire in October 2003 as wanted a bigger plot of land so that our cats could have larger accommodation and runs and also we could have some garden for ourselves!! As you can see from the photo below, which was taken out of the kitchen window, the boys houses have been constructed close to the house so that I can watch them from my kitchen and lounge windows.
I have always hated the fact that Stud boys have to live outside, although this is necessary because of their antisocial behaviour in the spraying department! It does help though that they are within eyeshot at all times. Each boy has girls in with them to keep them company and as such are never left on their own at any time. We rotate our girls so that they have two or three weeks indoors with us and then they go outside with the boys for a couple of weeks. We find that this way, they all have quality time with us.
We breed all the recognised colours and patterns. Our very careful breeding programme ensures that we produce large healthy litters with beautiful coats, tremendous bone, good eye colour, the retrousse nose ( my passion!) and of course the most important quality of the Ragdoll…….a fantastic temperament.
Our kittens are all born and raised indoors as we feel that this is the best way to ensure laid back babies who tend to be ‘bomb proof’ in everyway as you can see from the photo below!!

We have kittens who take a ride on the vacuum cleaner and who will happily sit by a spinning washing machine without a care in the world! They are born in the bedroom and come downstairs into the hubbub of the family environment at around 6 weeks old once they have been reliably litter trained!!
We have a large run which has been built just off the kitchen (pictured opposite) where all our indoor cats, including the kittens, love to play. They all love the fresh air and we believe this helps to keep them alert, lively and healthy.
Our babies do not leave our home until they are least 13 weeks old having been wormed, vaccinated and registered with the GCCF. They come insured with Pet Plan for a period of six weeks and also a diet fact sheet for their new owners information.
Our Ragdolls and their offspring are very important to us and we try to ensure that each kitten goes to the appropriate home. All of our kittens are sold first and foremost as pets even if they are sold with Show / Breed Potential. A Kitten Sales Agreement is required to be signed by potential new owners.
NB: We are not willing to sell a single kitten to those people who are out at work for long periods of time as Ragdolls thrive with company and are sensitive and uphappy when left alone.
We do not have kittens all of the time but enquiries are always welcome. Please keep an eye on this site as we will regularly update kitten availability and any news updates on any of our cats etc.
